Mission
Statement
The Family Center works through education and community involvement to
eliminate violence
and provide
safety for all people victimized by abuse.
Domestic Abuse
Services
The Family Center is a non-profit organization which provides services to
victims of domestic violence and their children.
Domestic abuse affects many of us on different levels and while women are in
fact the primary victim, men have experienced abuse as well (FBI stats show
that 95-98% of the abuse victims are women). Since opening in 1984, the
Family Center has provided shelter and services to three or four men in
comparison to over a thousand women.
Abuse can take many forms. It can exhibit itself in physical, verbal, mental
and emotional forms. Abuse is often accompanied by economical and sexual abuse.
Often victims of abuse find it difficult to reach out for help. To understand
abuse is to know it is all about the need to have power and control.
Think about this:
Does your partner call you names? Limit the amount of money you have?
Push, hit or threaten you in order to get their way or control your
behavior? Do you want the abuse to stop?
Knowledge and understanding
of the cycle of abuse leads to building healthy, violence free
relationships.
The Family Center offers safe shelter, counseling, support, advocacy, and
referral to other agencies. If you would like more information, please call us
at (715) 421-1511. Staff members are available 24-hours and here to help.
Walk-in services are also available.
